Whatever the outcome, Real Madrid should move on from Carlo Ancelotti
Whether Real Madrid wins the treble or goes trophy less this season, Carlo Ancelotti must leave at the end of the season.
Stories in football have a beginning, but they do also have an end – and from what we have seen so far, it looks like Carlo Ancelotti’s time at Real Madrid shouldn’t be pushed any further.
As the leader of Real Madrid, in two tenures, the Italian coach has achieved unimaginable things – becoming the most decorated coach in history of the club, while winning the UEFA Champions League three different times. During his time at Real Madrid, the club has achieved all kind of wins, those with big scorelines, the historic comebacks, the tightest of battles, dominant wins but also ugly wins – most importantly, the team knew how to fight in tough situations and in reality, no match looked over until it was over – until this season.
In his fourth year in the second tenure and in the sixth year in total at Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti’s team is far from showing it’s true colors and is playing one of the most unconvincing football they have played over the last decade. The big game record this season has been woeful for Real Madrid, losing twice embarrassingly to Barcelona, losing to Liverpool after 15 years, losing to Athletic Bilbao, Milan, Lille – on top of that, Real Madrid never looked like a team that could change anything in their favor during those matches.
In the two wins – vs Dortmund & Atalanta, Real Madrid were outplayed by the latter and needed individual brilliance to come back vs Dortmund, while also bottling the win in the 96th minute vs Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano back is September. In short, Ancelotti doesn’t have what to offer anymore for Real Madrid – and the sooner both sides part ways, the better for both.
Per the reports, our exclusive information and how things have gone so far this season, it looks almost certain that Carlo Ancelotti will remain the coach of Real Madrid until 2024/25 season ends – but the continuity beyond seems unnecessary and the wrong decision for both sides.
Real Madrid’s position in La Liga and the brilliant squad they have, being in three biggest competitions still – means that Ancelotti still has the cards open for a historic season, but no matter how this season ends, the Italian should not manage Real Madrid after it. The stains received so far have been really big, and despite that one-off games get lost in time - results like those in the Clasicos always remain in the memory.
It is not only about results though, it is also about how the team is being managed. You can that almost everyone who would have this team in their hands, would use it better and could do a better job.
It is surprising that a coach who made Vini Jr. who he is today, turning him into the best player in the world – is refusing to use superstar capacity assets in Arda Guler, Endrick & Raul Asencio more. These players could prove extremely useful to give the team not only more quality, but a wide variety of choices that can prove useful in tight games in tight periods of the season. The first two didn’t get a single minute in the Supercopa – while Asencio is surprisingly being benched to play a midfielder as a CB, despite the team showing the most stability defensively when he was starting after Militao’s injury. Other than this, Ancelotti is not fully to blame, because he has Lucas Vazquez as the only RB option to use this season and really, really limited CB choices, with the board refusing to go to the market to strengthen the defense. In short, the team is one more injury in defense away from catastrophe.
With what he has, I still believe that Carlo Ancelotti can bring major trophies this season at the Santiago Bernabeu depending on how the team acts – but now is the perfect time to act and comeback after one of the poorest showings in history of the club vs Barcelona in the Supercopa final. The focus should be to close his Real Madrid career on a high, with May being the last month of his at the club.
The name to replace him is clear – Xabi Alonso. It is time for Real Madrid to move on to a young coach and a new philosophy.
Carlo Ancelotti has given everything for Real Madrid, and in these last few months he can add something else too - whether he does or not, it’s without a doubt that he remains an absolute legend of the club, but as I said earlier in the article, he can’t offer anything to Real Madrid anymore. It is time to move on!
Respectfully disagree, I think it’s clear first that the blame needs to go to executives for not investing in fullbacks and center backs. If we had proper back ups the team would be in a better position. Regarding Endrick and Arda if they start that means one of Mbappe, Vini, or Rodrygo or Bellingham is getting benched and that’s difficult to do. Frankly sometimes coaches try to stick to players because if you replace them too quickly the player might start to second guess themselves for fear of being replaced so the coach has to make sure his starting players have all the confidence, we saw this with Mbappe and now he’s playing well because ancelotti didn’t give up on him. Bottom line I follow Florentino policy, if you win a major trophy you stay if not you leave.
Stop acting like we didn’t have Militao and Carvajal at the beginning of the season yet still played dogshit
It’s very clear that this squad is still young and out of Ancelotti job
We need to move on
